Initial research
Each guide starts from the practical questions a consumer is likely to have at that stage of a borrowing decision. We research the general mechanics of each loan type, common terminology, and typical cost structures, favoring plain language over technical or legal phrasing wherever the meaning can be preserved.
Internal review
Before publishing, content is checked for clarity, accuracy of general concepts, and consistency with how the same terms are explained elsewhere on the site — so a reader moving between guides gets a coherent picture rather than conflicting explanations.
Ongoing review
We revisit published guides on a periodic basis, and sooner when we're notified of a possible error or become aware of a regulatory change. Each guide's "last reviewed" date reflects the most recent pass.
What we do when we're not certain
Where a fact could reasonably change over time — a specific rate cap, a state's regulatory status, a fee limit — we write in general terms and point readers to the appropriate official source rather than stating a specific figure we can't continuously verify.
Reader-flagged issues
Reports submitted through our corrections page are reviewed, and confirmed corrections are made to the relevant page with an updated review date.
